Jerrica's Blog from Browning: Breakfast in the Classroom

With a year of service already behind me, I’m excited about the progress we’ve seen in Browning for the start of the 2016-2017 school year.  I’m definitely feeling confident about what we can achieve in the months to come, and happy to be able to share that Browning Public Schools can add two more to the list – both Napi and Browning Elementary have adopted Breakfast after the Bell!

After a lot of planning and coordination with school administration and food service, Browning Elementary is now providing a breakfast in the classroom program, which is served after the bell.  We’re also glad to report that Browning Elementary is showing an increase to an average daily participation rate of 351 students in September of 2016, which is up from a rate of 152 students back in September of 2015.

Napi Elementary is also operating a Breakfast in the Classroom program, serving Grab n’ Go breakfasts which are distributed in the hallway when the bell rings, and are eaten by students during the first 10 minutes of class. Napi now has an average daily participation of 303 students eating as of September 2016, compared to an average of 183 in September 2015.

The numbers speak for themselves, and all of the teachers, students and administrators that we’ve spoken with seem to be satisfied with the results – I know I am!  Going forward, our plan is to implement Breakfast after the Bell in the last two schools by Fall of 2017.
