Gov. Steve Bullock was in kickback mode when he rambled into C.S. Porter Middle School late Tuesday afternoon. He’d worn a dress tie and suit to do business in Helena earlier in the day, but switched to blue jeans and boots to hobnob with 55 students from the Missoula Flagship Program about what they eat and what their school and town are doing to make sure it’s the good stuff.

On Thursday, Troy Public School Administration held a farewell dinner for Rikki Luebke, a Montana No Kid Hungry AmeriCorps member who served Troy Public Schools over the recent school year. AmeriCorps sets young adults up with intensive community outreach programs where they help move communities forward, and Montana No Kid Hungry is one of the programs young adults are placed. Montana No Kid Hungry’s mission is to end child hunger in Montana by working alongside food assistance programs to increase participation, outreach, benefits and education.

Montana No Kid Hungry partners with Prevention Resource Center AmeriCorps VISTAs to increase food access and get high quality meal projects running smoothly. VISTAs collaborate with members of schools and communities to increase participation in school meal programs, offering support by building program capacity and infrastructure. Our VISTA service term runs for a full year, beginning and ending in August.
