Cooking Matters & Additional Resources
Cooking Matters at the store is an interactive, in-store shopping tour that teaches low-income families four key food shopping skills: buying fruits and vegetables on a limited budget, identifying whole grains, comparing unit prices and reading food labels. The 60 to 90 minute tour is led by skilled facilitators with varied backgrounds: culinary professionals, health professionals, WIC coordinators, Head Start staff and teachers, etc.
Get involved in your community by becoming a trained Cooking Matters at the Store tour facilitator! Take the online training, learn tips and strategies for purchasing healthy food on a budget, receive course materials, and be able to host your own guided grocery store tours in your community.
With the help of volunteer culinary and nutrition experts, Cooking Matters course participants learn how to select nutritious and low-cost ingredients and prepare them in ways that provide the best nourishment possible to their families. Cooking Matters is nationally sponsored by the ConAgra
