Schools and community partners are encouraged to apply for grants to spport the implementation of innovative and well-proven food programs that provide kids with the food they need all day and all year round.
Purpose: Grants are intended to help schools and community organizations increase participation in existing meal programs by implementing alternative strategies, or launch a new program where there currently are none. Grants are not intended to support the costs of food or labor for ongoing meal service. Funds are intended for the purchase of approved equipment, training and outreach materials necessary to roll out, expand, or improve a meal service program. However, schools can apply for funds to recruit temporary staffing to facilitate the transition/launch of a new program. In the past, grants have been used to purchase kiosks for Grab' N' Go Breakfast, host summer meal kickoff events, improve programming and atmosphere to encourage teen participation, and much more!
Eligibility: To be eligible to apply, applicants must either be planning to implement an alternative service model (e.g. Breakfast in the Classroom), make major innovative changes to an existing underutilized program, or to start a new program if one doesn't currently exist.
Guidelines: Grant applications will be evaluated on the basis of adherence to eligibility requirements, growth potential, community need, and program sustainability beyond the grant funding period. Further, grant applicants must be able to identify existing barriers to program participation and make a strong case that proposed changes will address these barriers and result in increased participation.
